How is a gap rental different from a relocation

A relocation moves a vehicle from one location to another along a set route, often for as little as $1 a day. A gap rental has no route to drive - you pick up and drop off at the same branch and pay a discounted daily rate for however long you need the vehicle.

How much does a gap rental cost

Gap rentals are discounted off the supplier's standard daily rate - typically around 30% off. You'll see the daily rate on the listing. A small deposit secures your booking and the balance is paid to the supplier on collection.

You pay a deposit online to secure the booking. The remaining balance is paid directly to the supplier when you collect the vehicle.

The bond is a refundable security deposit that the supplier holds on your card at pickup, just like any vehicle rental. The amount varies by supplier and vehicle, and it is returned to you after the vehicle is brought back on time and undamaged.

What is the cancellation policy

If you cancel before your booking is confirmed, you receive a full refund of the holding deposit, booking fee and any deposit paid on extra days. Once the booking is confirmed, these are forfeited if you cancel. If the supplier cancels because the vehicle becomes unavailable, you are refunded the booking fee, holding deposit and any extra-day deposit, but not out-of-pocket expenses such as accommodation, meals or itinerary changes, so we strongly recommend travel insurance.

Is insurance included

Basic insurance is included with every relocation, but it carries a standard excess (liability). You can reduce or remove this excess by purchasing the supplier's optional insurance reduction at pickup. Always check the listing and rental agreement for what is covered.

Yes. Additional drivers can be added at pickup and must meet the supplier's licence and age requirements. Note that extra drivers may incur additional costs, so always check the supplier's terms and conditions. Passenger limits depend on the vehicle's seatbelt and berth configuration.

Suppliers accept major credit cards (Visa and Mastercard) for both the rental and the security bond, usually in the lead driver's name at pickup.
